Temporary Spaces

Veranstaltungsbeschreibung:
The Temporary Spaces class, together with architecture students from Hamburg, is invited by Theater Bremen and Schwankhalle to develop interventions for the International Performing Arts Festival OUTNOW! In the courtyard of the Theater Bremen we will investigate practices, relations, objects and architecture as a basis for our own contextual objects, installations, or spatial forms.

The aim is to develop interventions that enable interaction with visitors, passersby, and residents of that neighborhood. We will start with a research into the context of the collaborating institutions (university, theater) to develop and implement temporary projects within the collective space of the city. Accompanied by the theater director Adelheid Schulz, students will activate the spaces and objects they have developed in the form of performances and actions.

The processes might include but are not limited to urban research, dérive, interviews with representatives of institutions and passers-by, mapping, reading and discussions on institutional critique, development of projects with video, sound, performative practices, development of installations in public space, temporary structures, etc.

The projects will evolve in an interdisciplinary discourse that is fundamentally bound to collective processes and joint decisions of the participants.
In collaboration with Mona Mahall (Professor for Architecture and Art, Hamburg), Adelheid Schulz (Theater director, Stuttgart), Florian Ackermann / Judith Strodtkötter (Artistic director and Program, Schwankhalle Bremen), and Theresa Schlesinger (Dramaturgy, Theater Bremen).

Temporary Spaces is a class in which students are given a structured time to explore and develop their own spatial ideas and processes. In regular gatherings all participants come together to discuss ideas, approaches, and work with other members of the class, faculty, and guests. A series of presentations, lectures and other inputs will be given during the semester to support individual and collective development.
