Project Preparation

Veranstaltungsbeschreibung:
This course will consist of two parts: Preparing your project (as the name of the module suggests) and - hopefully - having some fun getting to know each other. For the latter part, I plan to meet with you outside a few times (providing we can legally do so). It would be great if everyone could have use of a bicycle, but no worries, if you don't have one, or don't know how to ride one.

The departure point for a Master Project could be your fascination with a specific material, a specific technology, an issue, a question, your intention to master a new skill or desire to experiment with formats or methods. The more narrow your focus is, the more clearly you can define it, the easier it will be to develop a project. It could be practical, applied, experimental, artistic, theoretical, or a combination thereof. Don't be afraid to commit to an idea. Past projects have proven time and again, it is less important what you do, but how you do it. You should beginn thinking about your departure point right now, this very minute. During this course you will be asked to research your area and give brief presentations / talks. At the end of each talk the group will discuss the fundamental questions: How could one act upon/for/against/within the presented issue? And how can this be turned into a meaningful project? Of course it is no problem, if you are already much further along in your thinking. This can be integrated into our process easily.

By the end of the summer semester you will have decided upon your "departure point" and path for your Master Project. This path will have to be documented in some form. It could be a "project proposal", outlining your topic, research areas, methods, goals, formats, and even a timeline, but your documentation could also take on other forms or formats, that are more interesting or appropriate to your aims.

Zusätzliche Informationen:
Project Preparation M-MA-31 is a required course for all Digital Media master students. HfK students take this course at HfK, to prepare for their individual 3. semester Master Projects (M-MA-32). UBremen students take Project Preparation M-MA-31 at UBremen, to prepare for team projects.

It is recommended that all HfK-Digital Media master students, who will enter their second semester this summer 2022, enroll in this course. We will try to create opportunities to catch up, for anyone who can not take part in Project Preparation this summer, and subsequently may also have to or want to postpone their Master Project (M-MA-32).
