SOUND AND RESEARCH-CREATION

Veranstaltungsbeschreibung:
This course is designed for students interested in research methods for sound and research-creation (also called art-led, art-based research, or artistic research).

The focus is on transposing aspects of an existing project or work in progress into a sonic paradigm seeking to consider:??– aesthetic considerations of sound and research, i.e., what emerges from communication and results through sound?– fabulation as a means of inquiry, i.e., possibly use writing as a narrative device?– how to problematize, i.e., employ practice to think through theory, utilize practice to produce theory, deploy practice to critique theory.

The outcome will take the form of an experimental short-format podcast published on the Mixcloud channel S&RC.

To summarize: Learn to ‘think through sound and research’ to create a podcast that uses sound and theory as a means of reflection and self-reflexivity on your own emerging art/design practice. Regardless of the nature of your work (and output), the potential lies in connecting practice and theory, articulating your thoughts, discovering new aspects in and through your work, and engaging
with emerging insights.

Zusätzliche Informationen:
Basic audio production skills are required. I am a proponent of less-is-more, so if you have some experience with sound and are comfortable with recording and editing, you should be fine. Please understand that this course is not an introduction to audio production or sound design. If you have any further questions about this, please contact me.
S&RC on Mixcloud:

SOUND&RESEARCHCREATION, in short S&RC, is a podcast format that traverses the middling events of sound, art, and philosophy. Under the aegis of S&RC, the podcast series MODULATIONS ON THE FLY presents student projects of Sound Studies courses at the University of the Arts Bremen, which continue to explore sound in its material and conceptual dimension.

Check out some releases that are exemplars of what sound and research-creation can do:
