Less is Enough
Urged, in the face of the war and climate crisis, to cut our public as well as private consumption (of gas, power, water), we reflect on restraint and look back on the legacy of ascetic practices – without any sarcasm. We collectively read the title-giving essay by Pier Vittorio Aureli and discuss asceticism as a practice of living in relation to modernist design principles of 'less is more' and 'more with less.' We will talk and learn about monasteries, the Co-op Zimmer, and the artist Absalon and develop our own processes and projects.
Weniger ist genug
Aufgefordert, angesichts der Kriegs- und Klimakrise, unseren öffentlichen und privaten Verbrauch (von Gas, Strom, Wasser) zu reduzieren, denken wir über Einschränkung nach und blicken auf das Erbe asketischer Praktiken zurück - ohne jeden Sarkasmus. Wir lesen gemeinsam den titelgebenden Essay von Pier Vittorio Aureli und diskutieren die Askese als Lebenspraxis im Zusammenhang mit den modernistischen Gestaltungsprinzipien "weniger ist mehr" und "mehr mit weniger". Wir werden etwas über Klöster, das Co-op Zimmer und den Künstler Absalon erfahren und unsere eigenen Prozesse und Projekte entwickeln.

About the Temporary Spaces Class:
With the aim to critically reflect space as a temporary category, Temporary Spaces class deals with historical, political, social, technological, and aesthetic aspects of spatial production. Beyond disciplinary conventions and boundaries, the class explores practices that include various media and experimentation with space, in different scales, from urban interventions to video, installations, performances, sound, and text. The works are research based spanning critical theory and ancient philosophy, feminist and queer theories, socialist architectural utopias etc. Ultimately, Temporary Spaces is a platform for the collaborative creation of reflexive aesthetic experiences.
In regular gatherings participants come together to discuss ideas, approaches, and work with other members of the class, faculty, and guests. A series of presentations, lectures and other inputs will be given during the semester to support individual and collective development.
Collective gatherings are in English.
