Veranstaltungsbeschreibung: In this course we want to look at how light can be used as an artistic medium, reconfiguring space and time. The goal is to develop own installations, exhibition pieces or performances that utilize visual and optical phenomena, digital and physical peculiarities, sound and acoustics, animation and simulation, programming and interaction and might be site- or context-specific. The course will be closely collaborating with the seminar EXHIBIT by Bettina Pelz, so it is adviced to select both courses. Also, we are planning an exhibition possibility at GOLDSTUECKE Light Art Festival in Gelsenkirchen in October. In addition, we have the possibility to create an own exhibition at the former Columbusbahnhof in Bremerhaven. This would include a ca. one week residency onsite in September and a exhibition beginning of November. During the course you can utilize new and existing equipment of the HfK and external partners, e.g. 2x -5x 15.000 AnsiLumen projectors, 2x professional moving heads, a 5x3m semi transparent canvas and various DMX-contralable lights. Therefore, the first part of the course will deal with technical skills to control light technology, and develop experimental usages and applications for it. Through a tutorship you will also get an introduction into audio technology and sound design. We will also examine existing and historical examples of light art and light in the visual and performing arts. These should help and inspire you to develop your own concepts and ideas. In collaboration with the EXHIBIT course we will also delve into the conceptional, organizational and technical issues of developing an own exhibition and will get practical experience with the forehand mentioned technical setup.
