**Exploring Performing Arts through innovative approaches to site, devising, analogue and digital technology **
You are welcome to join our course and innovate at the intersection of performing and visual arts, technology, and creativity! This course is open to all students from the music and art and design schools, especially those who have an interest in pushing the boundaries of their discipline and learning more about the background to collaborative and performative practice.
No prior preparation/experience is required, enthusiasm and a willingness to explore new ideas and inventive approaches to making will be welcomed.
**Introduction and Exploration**
We will dive into fundamental concepts of performance arts, giving a brief introduction to the history and evolutionary trajectory of performance and liveness in connection invisible theatre, tactical media, socially embedded, stage-based performance, and other forms of performing art involving documentation and prerecording such as music videos. We will explore the potential integration of technology, analog elements, and site-engaged performances.
Through analysis of compelling examples, students will gain insights into the diverse approaches within this realm. Examples include, invisible theatre, physical sound, happenings, performativity, identity correction, sloganeering, storytelling, devising, technology enabled performance, and image theatre. Collaborative working is encouraged.
**Live Experimentation**
The highlight of the first phase of the course will be a live unexpected evolving performance / ‘flash mob’ in a public space, serving as the students first immersive experience. Students will utilize a blend of prerecorded and live-looped material, including field recordings played through Bluetooth speakers on smartphones. The performance will feature a mix of small acoustic/electronic instruments and invisible considered costumes, fostering an environment for spontaneous actions and improvised music. (documented through smart phones and go –pros)
**Documentation and Creation**
Following the "flash mob" performance, the documentation will become part of the raw material for our next phase. Students will refine their ideas and collaborate more intensively.
Our focus shifts to the production of structured music videos, employing techniques such as video editing, sound mixing, and choreography. Additionally, a gallery or photo-studio space will serve as a canvas for the creation of new audiovisual material.
Learning outcomes include - a deeper knowledge, understanding and use of - Space, directing, editing, construction and framing of space through imaginative manipulation of materials such as sculpture, installation, prop making, scenography, choreography, moving image, storytelling, sound design, sonic arts, costume and new technologies. Students will acquire the entrepreneurial skills required for professional practice.
**Culmination and Presentation**
As the semester draws to a close, students will present their works in various formats, ranging from installations to cinematic screenings of the music videos made within the course. The videos produced will not only stand alone as artistic pieces but will also potentially be built into the choreography of a live performance. This final showcase will be a testament to the creativity and innovation cultivated throughout the course.

Distilled Magic - offers a unique opportunity for students to explore the limitless possibilities at the intersection of visual arts, music, traditional instrumental and oral practices, sonic arts and other performance arts, through the use and experimentation with technology and analog praxis.
Through transdisciplinary experimentation, collaboration, and creativity, we aim to inspire new forms of expression give a grounding in and push the boundaries of traditional performance practices, involving multiple art forms.
Join us on this exciting journey as we question the boundaries, and reception for performance and spatial awareness, including the stage and public space.
