Material Ecologies/Material Computing Lab

Veranstaltungsbeschreibung:
Material Ecologies/Material Computing Lab is a platform and laboratory for exploring, investigating and realizing individual projects focusing on new materials in the context of digital, new hybrid ecologies and exploring practical concepts of material computing.

Influenced by an object-oriented ontology, contemporary material research and a new understanding of the thing-world, we want to think of our investigations as a dialog with matter - Accepting the individual properties and agencies of matter rather than forcing our directed expectations on them.
Materials and our understanding of them are changing. Materials are no longer understood as passive objects, but as active and responsive subjects, intertwined with their environment.
The course offers an introduction to theoretical and practical (technological) concepts of "ecological thinking" (Morton). We will dive into fluid machines, electrochemical devices, chemical gardens and beyond. As part of the course, a temporary Material Computing Lab will be set up to allow participants to conduct experiments in the field.

Each participant will research, design, experiment, and implement an individual or group project that will be presented and documented in the form of a presentation or exhibition at the end of the semester.
