Veranstaltungsname: Prompting Textuality: Questions and Requests as Artistic Forms
Veranstaltungsbeschreibung: The course explores the use of text in artworks, focusing on the formal and intentional aspects of questions and requests. It will consist of a theoretical/discursive part in which we will go through the writings of artists who have incorporated text into their work and have approached their practice through textuality. The course will also focus on the intertwined processes of artistic research and artistic production, with a particular emphasis on how questions and requests can function as artistic forms in these processes: This includes especially the methodologies of working with archives, be it both analog archives, such as museum archives, as well as digital archives, extending to new technologies such as AI. Together, we will delve deeper into what each of these categories of “questions” and “requests” could mean as artistic forms, explore the grammar and syntax of such methods of communication, imagine these approaches outside of language, as well as look at various temporal modalities of these processes, and explore the political, abstract, spatial, performative, sonic renderings of such a methodology in artistic practices.
Zusätzliche Informationen: The class will be in English and is open to all students, including PhD, Digital Media, Integrated Design and Fine Arts programs.
