gender: fragmented intersections?

Veranstaltungsbeschreibung:
"Are all bodies or, rather, is everything about the body constructed, and does that mean that bodies lack materiality?" (Judith Butler)

Gender needs a continuous effort to be constructed.
Norms need a continuous effort to be maintained.
Deconstruction needs a continuous fragmenting of the so called traditions. Or would this just create plural forms of tradition and through that plural forms of norms?
Hannah Arendt calls plurality a fundamental condition of human life. Plurality is an intersection. Do we need to break it up in order to understand it? Or is an intersection exactly that, which can never be segmented?

In this class, we will focus on the "cutting together apart" (Karen Barad) of gender and body constructions, the (bio-)politics of these two, feminism and intersectionality.
(De)constructing and fragmenting will be as well our major tools in the class within the discussions and the textual work. Textual work will mean reading texts, cutting texts apart, rearranging texts and working with texts visually. We will continuously work on a glossary together to reflect on the vocabulary we use. Texts will be, amogst others, by Karen Barad, Judith Butler, Kimberlé Williams Crenshaw, Paul B. Preciado and Legacy Russell.

Fragments always have a context they have been embedded in. Which role does this context play in analyzing them? Which fractures can deconstructing sex and gender create? Does the fracture open up another layer or guide us into the void?

This course is planned to be online for now. This will require a computer and internet connection and the willingness to experiment with this digital teachingformat. If you do not have a computer, there will be some at hfk you can borrow soon at Ausleihe. Mainly, we will use the program teams for our videoconferences. Seminarsessions will be every second week. Individual meetings can be planned off schedule.
Punctuality during the course hours will be important.

First meeting: 24.4.2020 14 at (Microsoft) Teams as Videoconference.

The seminar is offered for students from DM MA and DM BA, for students from ID BA and MA and for Students from Fine Art. (Theory, Interdisciplinary)

English will be our main language when reading and writing. Students who do not feel fully comfortable talking in English are still warmly invited to participate.
