Veranstaltungsbeschreibung:
Semester topic: Join a new domestic revolution
As we are staying at home, mostly inside of our houses, we are taking (more) care of our domestic spaces and we are also taking (more) care of ourselves and others. Can we now start thinking of ways to take this care outside, to public spaces, for a revolution during or after the crisis? How can we imagine public spaces to take care of ourselves and others? To propose and discuss answers to these questions, we go back to ideas and texts from an earlier domestic revolution: During the late 19th century, socialist and feminist ideas were spread from inside of families’ homes to fight for the right to equal participation in public (political and economic) life. We will read various texts to actualize spatial ideas for our current time: for open and inclusive squares, queer streets, collective ceremonies, etc. to take their places within a virtual world.

The two Temporary Spaces courses ID.BA.GP.04 and DM.B-MA-2(MG)/M-MA-2 are connected: Following the semester topic, participants of the class will present one of the texts on the domestic revolution (ID.BA.GP.04) and develop a spatial project using adequate media and tools (DM.B-MA-2(MG)/M-MA-2), which will be collectively brought into our agora, an online world to generate a new public out of our current domestic.

Related to their particular ideas, desires and practices (in fine arts, digital media and integrated design) students are invited to develop individual projects in the collective framework of the Temporary Spaces Class. Temporary Spaces is a class in which students are given a structured time to explore and develop their own spatial ideas and processes. In regular gatherings all participants come together to discuss ideas, approaches, and work with other members of the class, faculty, and guests. A series of presentations, lectures and other inputs will be given during the semester to support individual and collective development.
