Official Course Description:
Related to their particular ideas, desires and practices (in digital media, fine arts and integrated design) students are invited to develop individual projects in the collective framework of the Temporary Spaces Class. Temporary Spaces is a class in which students are given a structured time to explore and develop their own spatial ideas and processes. In regular gatherings all participants come together to discuss ideas, approaches, and work with other members of the class, faculty, and guests. A series of presentations, lectures and other inputs will be given during the semester to support individual and collective development.
Semester topic: Sky as a screen
The sky represents the universal memory of nature, whereas the screen is a reflection of the human mind. We will depart from two images; “Bliss”, the default wallpaper of Windows XP and an “Ottoman miniature” depicting the chief astronomer of the Empire working in the Observatory House to discuss on contemporaneity, criticality and interdisciplinarity.
The class will take place in collaboration with the curator Adnan Yildiz and will end up with a public show.
Beyond the semester topic, students are invited to work on their own individual projects. Therefore, they are asked to bring a self-written abstract (3 to 4 sentences) that includes the thematic interest and a crucial research or project question to the first session on October 17.
Students from all areas and levels —Fine Arts, Integrated Design, Digital Media, and Music— are invited and encouraged to join.
